55 imagesBodie, CA is located at 8500ft in the Eastern Sierra mountains above the Mono Lake basin and thirty miles or so east of Yosemite National Park. One of the better preserved ghost towns of the west, I have photographed it on several occasions over the past twenty years. In this recent gallery the emphasis was to utlize the Lensbaby 3G as my primary lens. The Lensbaby truly forces one to examine the world in a different way. Bodie has always been a favorite place no matter what time of year it is. I've found a new perspective on the artifacts and weathered structures everytime I visit. The Mono Lake images were taken in October of 2006 and March 2012 with an incoming storms about to pound the Sierras. The tufa structures along the Mono lake shorline are always interesting to photograph. I found these afternoons a bit wind swept and covered by foreboding clouds. All images in this gallery have custom black and white treatments found in the Bodie And Mono Lake, CA - Fine Art - Black & White Gallery.

31 imagesThe images contained in this gallery were photographed on February 20th 2011. Special thanks to Tony and Bobbie Werly who maintain the property at the Eldorado Canyon Mine or also known as the Techatticup Mine in Nelson, NV. The Werly's have quite an extensive collection of Americana spread all over their property. The Werly's offer gold mine tours as well as kayak and canoe rental for nearby Colorado River excursions. The artifacts collected over the years at this site are impressive and will take you back in time. The collection of old Chevrolet vehicles, gasoline pumps, route 66 service station signs, mining equipment and assorted vintage household items is almost overwhelming. I hope to return again soon to photograph this location in more detail as I feel I've only scratched the surface with this outing. I highly recommend viewing the black and white versions of these images as they lend to the texture and mood of these items. These can be viewed in the Eldorado Canyon - Nelson, NV (B & W) gallery.

55 imagesAll images in this gallery are displayed by permission of the Motor Transport Museum, Campo CA. The Motor Transport Museum holds a fantastic collection of vintage transport vehicles dating back to the early 1900's. Open only on Saturdays 10am-5pm the MTM is maintained by a devout group of knowledgeable folks bent on preserving some wonderful history. Admission is free but donations are welcome. The images here only scratch the surface of the amazing items stored here. The emphasis of the collection here is truck based but there are an assortment of items being restored on premisis such as a World War II era searchlight and generator. Current restoration projects also include the Julian 1924 Cadillac Stage. I plan to return soon likely on a cool overcast day for some even lighting. Some images here employed HDR post processing due to the harsh contrast heavy lighting. In some cases the HDR processing really brougt out some details that would have gone overlooked or blocked up otherwise. I hope you enjoy the mixture of standard lens and Lensbaby captures. To view the black and white treatments of each of these images please see the Motor Transport Museum - Campo, CA (Black & White) gallery.

13 imagesOak Glen, CA. Small mountain town at the foothills of the San Bernardino mountains. It is formally known for Southern California grown apples and still has a few remaining orchards. I've visited this location many times over the past twenty years documenting the decay of the old ice house and large wheeled wagon.

31 imagesPearsonville automotive graveyard can be found off of highway 395 just north of the highway 14 junction. I'm told that this site is only about 30% of what it once was for rare rusted out, sunbaked, vehicles. Introduced to this location by a good friend of mine who is also a photographer, Scott Mathews, Pearsonville is a treasure of classic decaying vehicles that span decades of abandoned Americana. The two visits to Pearsonville were exclusively Lensbaby shoots. The literally rustic subject matter with the Lensbaby is a fantastic match. Each of the images in this gallery also include black and white treatments with an emphasis where possible on infrared emulation. The black and white treatments can be found in the Pearsonville, CA - Automobile Graveyard (Fine Art - Black & White) gallery.

26 imagesLensbaby study of Pottsville in Merlin on April 12th 2010. The home of historic gas and steam engines, buildings and vintage hardware of the past. It is located on Pleasant Valley Road, off of Merlin-Galice Hwy. Pottsville was founded by Eugene "Debbs" Potts a former Mayor of Grants Pass and State Senator from Grants Pass in 1961 to 1985. "An accumulation of the past" is what you will find here. Home of thousands of items reflecting Oregon's early 20th century history. This site made for some outstanding Lensbaby images which will make it into the Abandoned Americana collection very soon. Thanks to my father for providing me with the tour. For viewing of the various black and white treatments of each of these images please see the Pottsville - Merlin,OR (Black & White) gallery.

Quite a bit of HDR processing went into the images contained in this gallery not only to control heavy contrast but to bring out texture. To view the original color versions please view the Eldorado Canyon - Nelson, NV gallery.
