77 imagesThis collection of fall color images were taken at the end of September 2009 in the Bishop Lakes area of the Eastern Sierra Nevada Mountains. There was a very short window for fall color this year as a wind storm blew through the area on the following week emptying the trees of leaves. The Bishop Lakes region is a popular summer vacationing area as well as excellent for alpine fishing. I plan to revisit this area in years to come and hike into the high country as what is shown here only scratches the surface of the beauty of this area of the Eastern Sierras. To view black and white treatments of some of these images please examine the Bishop Lakes, CA - Fine Art Black & White gallery.

7 imagesImages in this gallery were photographed on June 8th 2011. After a record snowfall year of 649 inches, I was standing on 35-40 foot snow banks and drifts to photograph still in early June. Access at this point was limited to the south rim lodge area and Discovery Point. It is expected that the rim drive will not be open until after the end of July in 2011. The views from the south rim are impressive. Even with a wide angle full frame DSLR setup the panoramic image is built from four full frame captures. I can only hope to emphasize the other worldly expanse of sky, snow covered caldera and the deepest blue lake in the US with the contained images. Everyone should try see this place in person at one point in your life. The daunting fact to get your head around is that this place was once a 12,000ft volcano that blew about 7,700 years ago. The black and white conversions turned out especialy well from this series. To view these please see the Crater Lake National Park, OR (Black & White) gallery.

28 imagesThese images were photographed following a storm that blanketed Yellowstone and the Grand Tetons in mid June 2008. This was my first visit to this area that up until then I could only visualize through the black and white images of Ansel Adams. I realized later that I could not have had better conditions with fantastic clouds and freshly covered mountain tops over the Tetons. This gallery contains the color original images from June 13th 2008. Please explore the black and white fine art gallery of these images. Most of these images are properly visualized as infrared black and white versions.

16 imagesImages in this gallery were photographed in mid October 2012. This was my first visit to the Great Smoky Mountains and I should have made this visit many years sooner. Fortunately the timing for fall color was perfect for the lower elevations and still good for the upper making for some great images. The variety of trees in this area are beyond belief which adds to the staggering effect of color found there in the autumn. I found the over abundance of streams and small cascades throughout the area a photographer's dream. It has been an extensive editing project and post processing job to narrow down nearly 1200 images to these. Enjoy and please view the Great Smoky Mountains, TN (Black & White) gallery for monotone and infrared treatments of most of these images. Some images in this gallery are not available for online purchase due to limited edition printings. For inquiries regarding please contact the artist directly.

29 imagesImages in this gallery were photographed over several years starting in late 2008 and updated most recently in December 2012. I've photographed Joshua Tree many times over the past twenty years and every visit new discoveries are always found. While the Joshua Tree and amazing rock formations gain most of the attention in the park, I've found the lone Desert Oak Trees are the most interesting to photograph. The Desert Oak appear almost dead and grow out of rock crags in the most extreme of high desert environments. Several Lensbaby images are also featured in this gallery capturing the Desert Oak in an sinister surreal mood. Most of the final versions of these images translate to black and white best. Please view the Joshua Tree National Park, CA (Fine Art - Black & White) gallery.

25 imagesImages in this gallery were photographed in May of 2012. Locations include the Bisti Wilderness, Chaco Canyon, the Ojito and Cuba Badlands. One item of note is that many of the Bisti Egg Factory images were photographed during the May 20th 2012 eclipse just prior to sunset. Northwest New Mexico is an amazing area with many surreal geological vistas. I plan to return in the near future either earlier in the spring or late fall when temperatures are lower and clouds are more prevalent. For black and white treatments of these images please visit the New Mexico Badlands (B/W) gallery.

32 imagesThe images in this gallery were photographed in October 2010. Included here are selections from the Columbia River Gorge as well as from coastal waterfall locations. The afternoon of October 14th coastal photography wasn't looking too good due to an incoming storm so a visit to Sweet Creek Falls near Mapleton, Oregon was planned. This turned out to be a fantastic find especially during fall color with a lot of fallen orange turned maple leaves everywhere. Sweet Creek is just that "visually sweet". The mile long hike back to the main waterfall straddles along the creek bed where there are a great series of smaller cascade falls. I opened this gallery with images from this "sweet" location, enjoy. More additions are to come shortly. The sister gallery Oregon Waterfalls (Black & White) is also posted with these same images in monotone interpretation.

172 imagesImages in this gallery range from various coastal locations. As a resident of California, I have traveled extensively along the west coast and Hawaii. This gallery will be considered a constant work in progress with new work added regularly. The most recent submissions here are of Trinidad Bay at sunset, June 2013. A mixture of long exposures, standard and wide angle images can be viewed here. If black and white treatments are desired please view the Seascapes (Fine Art - Black & White) gallery.

111 imagesImages in this gallery were photographed between June 8th and June 13th 2008. This was my first visit to Yellowstone and I was amazed with the natural beauty, wildlife, and geothermal activity abound. Fortunately although the visit was in late spring some winter weather stuck around making for some great images. The geyser views with the cold air made for great steam cloud formations. Most outstanding though are the mineral and cyanobacteria formations surrounding these geysers. They are trully otherworldly and visually striking making for some cool abstracts. It has been an extensive editing and post processing project to narrow down nearly 1500 images to these. Enjoy and please view the Yellowstone National Park (Black & White) gallery for monotone, infrared and sepia treatments of most of these images.

74 imagesI would like to dedicate this gallery to Dave Ficke and Max McCormick. Both great educators who guided me in my early days discovering Yosemite and photography. Yosemite has always been a special place for me ever since my introduction as a fifteen year old to its natural beauty and outstanding scenic vistas. My first visit was with a 35mm Canon AE-1 camera in hand during the spring of 1985 with my high school field biology class. On this visit I was simultaneously just beginning to grasp the concepts of Ansel Adams' zone system along with taking in the wonders of this amazing place. Needless to say I convinced my high school field biology instructor, Dave Ficke to allow me to come along with his class the following year to photograph the valley in better detail. Encouraged by my photography instructor Max McCormick, my first endevour with a 4x5 field camera was a success on this trip in 1986 and many decent quality black and white negatives were exposed, processed and printed utilizing Adams' zone system. Since these early visits I have returned to Yosemite many times, refining my perspectives, bringing new photographic technics and technology, always in awe of the beauty of this amazing place. Images in this gallery were photographed over several years beginning in April 1997 which were 4x5 field camera transparencies and negatives now digitally scanned. The most recent images in this gallery are from march 2022. The highlight of this recent visit was a great sunset - dusk sequence from the Yosemite Valley overlook. Most of the final versions of these images translate to black and white best in my opinion. Since my first visits to Yosemite, I always seem to revert back to the zone system techniques of Ansel Adams when exposing and processing images from this fantastic location. Please view the Yosemite National Park, CA (Black & White) gallery to view these treatments.

24 imagesThis collection of fall images was taken at the end of September 2009 in the Bishop Lakes area of the Eastern Sierra Nevada Mountains. This gallery has a select group of images that translate well to infrared black and white processing. No grain processing has been applied but can be requested on any of the shown images. Any special requests can be placed via email. The Bishop Lakes region is a popular summer vacationing area as well as excellent for alpine fishing. I plan to revisit this area in years to come and hike into the high country as what is shown here only scratches the surface of the beauty of this area of the Eastern Sierras. To view the full color gallery of these images please examine the Bishop Lakes, CA - Fall Color gallery.

15 imagesThe images contained within this gallery were captured in October of 2017. I wish to express a special thanks to Billy and Dottie Carter for their hospitality as well as extensive access to to lake. Caddo Lake is situated on the northern Texas and Louisiana border. The western side of the lake is featured in the images shown. As road access is limited, the best way to see the lake is by shallow bottom boats. Billy and his staff run tours out of Johnson's Ranch Marina, the oldest inland marina in Texas. His modified extended propellers boats are ideal for the narrow and shallow channels. Since 2006, the lake has experienced an invasive species problem with rapid growth of Giant Salvinia (Salvinia molesta) that has choked waterways as well as limited recreational access. It is a free floating plant from South America commonly used in fresh water aquatic fish tanks. In Caddo Lake the growth has impacted local wildlife negatively also. Eradication measures have been put in place but have failed to fully resolve the problem. One measure has been to introduce weevils from South America that naturally keep growth in check but the numbers required for an impact are realistically unobtainable. More damaging in the long-term, I witnessed an air-boat crew every morning applying an aquatic mixture of Roundup to the floating masses of Giant Salvinia. As we know Glyphosate, the active component in Roundup has been proven as a known carcinogen. I fear for the long term health of this amazing lake. It is truly a unique place that I encourage everyone to visit to fully appreciate.
